$U and AS 400

I am familiar with $universe on unix platform, but now I am asked to work on a projet where $U will be used on an AS 400. I did not find much on the internet, except Orsyp's official documentation, and I have the felling that it is not very widely used. Plus I heard some nasty rumors about poor performance.

Can anybody give me a feedback about it ? does it really work ?
